Love How You Want. Make Sure It’s Pure

For whatever reason, love is a reoccurring conversation topic. Not love in the sense of people longing for relationships but love as a core piece of all the important things in life. For me love ties into my relationship with friends and family and my role as a father. As expected, Love Languages came up, and as I’ve mentioned before I consider myself pretty open to all of them. I don’t have an exclusive love language that you have to deal in to connect with me. Recently, I was made aware of something that I never really thought about. It’s not always what you do or how you do it, but WHY that’s the most important. You can be moving with the intention of showing love but certain people have to receive it a particular way. For me, if the expression is honest and pure, I’m open to how it can be delivered to me. I feel true love should allow for understanding, but that’s the reason the WHY is one part of the equation that is necessary for me. I would describe it as Intention without Direction.

What I mean is that you can send a letter, a text message, send a gift, arrange to spend quality time, or give hug. Whatever the language may be, love that is proactive, self-initiated, and timely is what hits me the deepest. When left to your own devices what do you do for folks? I have never believed in doing something to get something in return. My expressions are always done with the hope that they will make the recipient feel better and be appreciated.

I was recently catching up with one of my guys and we spoke about the fact that everybody is so busy and just caught up with their own things right now so timely communication can be a funny thing. Everybody’s time is devoted to so many different things right now. It’s definitely the quality over quantity approach to life. You never know how many opportunities you have to express yourself so you try to make every expression matter.

I think that’s why the “just because” and “just so you know” messages are a staple of mine. No national holiday or fancy occasion is needed. I just want you to know that I care. A simple gesture that can go a long way.
